FIRST MEETINGS OF COMMITTEE
PRELIMINARY TALKS WITH GOVERNMENT (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, May 26. A preliminary meeting of the Ross Sea Committee will be held next week, according to its chairman (Mr C. M. Bowden). The committee will first hold discussions with the Government. After these talks, another full general meeting of the committee will be held to begin planning.
Mr Bowden said that one of the committee’s first jobs “will be to acquire an office and set up an organisation.”
The committee is also charged with selecting a leader for the expedition. It is expected that this will not be done until after the visit of the British liaison officer.
“We have to remember all the time that we are planning for the lives of men,” said Mr Eowden. “The committee will therefore move surely and cautiously in order to carry out the important objects of the expedition, having at the same time due regard for the paramount importance of taking every precaution to guard the lives of those who will be engaged.”
