STOCK EXCHANGES GOOD BUOYANT SUPPORT Markets were active on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, when a large volume of diversified business was handled. Government stock continued to gather strength in sales and quotations. Sellers were again reticent. New Zealand Breweries remained in demand at slightly firmer rates, with sales from 49s 6d to 49s 9d, and at the close buyers offered 49s 6d. against sellers at 50s. Ballins had steady buyers at 28s 9d, and the company’s preferences had sales unchanged at 21s, with buyers prepared to carry on at this price. New Zealand Insurance looked weaker with cheaper unsupported sellers at £6 18s. National Insurance sold unchanged at 275, as did Standards at 97s 6d (With buyers prepared to continue). South British scored a good rise in business at 62s 9d. Woolworths, Ltd., were fractionally dearer with sales and sellers at. 15s. Lane, Walker, Rudkin Industries dropped to business at 42s 6d, with further buyers at 42s 3d. N.Z. Farmers’ Co-operative issues had stronger buying support. Cyclone ordinary contributings hardened sharply to sell at 14s, and buying requirements were unfilled. The company’s preferences advanced fractionally in a sale, at 10s 6d, the market closing at 10s 5d and 10s 6d, respectively. DOMINION TRANSACTIONS
