HOTEL WORKERS’ UNION
Sir, —I must remind Mr Neilsen that because his statement was made to a reporter on the street after the meeting, the text was unknown to me, and I considered the other 3000 members should know w’here the irregularities lay. I must also remind him that when it was moved that “the election of six executive members be abandoned and fresh nominations called” I quoted rule 7(a), which said that our executive consists of president, vice-president, two trustees, a secretary and six other members of the union, all of whom shall be deemed to be officers of the union. I contended that the ballot could not be divided into parts, as the business was “to accept or reject a recommendation from the executive to cancel the present ballot for the election of officers.” The Labour Department has instructed that asterisks are not to appear on the new ballot papers.—Yours, etc., N. M. SMITH. May 23, 1955.
