COLIN HORSLEY
FINAL SOLO CONCERT OF TOUR TONIGHT The final solo concert to be given in New Zealand on his present tour by the New Zealand pianist, Colin Horsley, will be given in the Civic Theatre, Christchurch, this evening. This will be Mr Horsley’s first solo concert in Christchurch for five years. One of the works on his programme for this evening is Cesar Franck’s magnificent “Prelude,, Chorale and Fugue.” The “Symphonic Variations” of the same composer was on the programme given in Christchurch two weeks ago by the National Orchestra and Mr Horsley. Mr Horsley’s performance in this work “left nothing to be desired,” according to C.F.8., music critic for “The Press.” One of the cleverest arrangements ever made by Rachmaninoff is the scherzo, from Mendelssohn’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream.” This work is also on the programme for tonight, which is made up of classic and romantic works. Mr Horsley’s concert at Palmerston North last. Saturday drew an audience of more than 1000 and he again had a capacity house at Blepheim last evening. After giving his twenty-fourth New Zeland concert of the tour tonight he will leave for Australia on June 13 to fulfil engagements with the Australian Broadcasting Commission. When he arrives back in England in four months he will have given 75 concerts since he left there earlier in the year.
