FARM MACHINERY DESTROYED

FIRE IN SHED AT FERNSIDE

Three tractors, a threshing mill and a header were destroyed by Are on the farm of Bayley Brothers at Fernside, near Rangiora, last evening, A quantity of tuel, as well as the shed in which the machinery was boused, was also destroyed. 7716 damage is estimated at several thousand pounds. The outbreak was'seen by Mrs J. B. Bayley and the Rangiora Volunteer Fire Brigade was called out about 8.20 p.m. By the time it arrived at the farm with a trailer pump it was too late to save the shed and Its contents. Good work was done before the arrival of the brigade by neighbours whose efforts prevented the fire from spreading to an adjoining shed. ELECTRICAL GOODS BURNED Fire ruined a valuable stock of electrical goods stored in an iron lean-to shed on the premises of the Gordon Electrical Company at I®2 Madras street last evening. The premises were left about 5 p.m. and at 5.50 p.m. four units from the central station of the Christchurch Fire Brigade answered the call to the fire. The shed was damaged, and the contents of electric cake mixers, lighting tubes and other electrical gear, thought to be worth about £7OO, was severely damaged. It is not known how the fire started. A grass fire on the property of Mr W. G. Langley, at 47 Aylesford street, was put out by units from the St. Albans and central stations at 3.5 p.m. A room and its contents ta the dwelling of Mr E. R. Cook, 20 Rosewarne S reet ’.. WES damaged by fire. Answering the call at 4.29 p.m. units from the Sydenham and central stations put out the Are with first aid equipment. At 6.54 p.m. there was a call to a chimney fire at 27 Tuam street in a dwelling occupied by Mrs R. Connor. There was no damage.
