THE BRUSH-OFF
Sir, —City Councillors were indignant over the “brush-off” given them by the Government about Harewood Aerodrome, and rightly so; but it amused me to hear the term “brush-off” used. Do these councillors ever think of the brush-off they give themselves to the ordinary citizen, who has, to them, the audacity to point out the errors they make in administration, by permitting the injustice of nerve-racking industries among the homes of the people, against the wishes of the people. Today, April 13. the noise and dust that came from the Brown sand-blasting plant, doing a Ministry of Works job, was a disgrace to the city councillors. On April 23 this plant will have been operating one year. Would you please ask our Member of Parliament and Mayor how much longer it will be before the City Council takes action under the Town and Country Planning Act? Or am Ito be “brushed off,” as usual? Nil desperandum.—Yours, etc., R. Woodhouse. April 15, 1955. [“Mrs Woodhouse knows my views regarding the sand-blasting plant/ said the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane) in his comments on this letter. “There are no overriding powers against a decision of the whole council. The question of the scheme is one to refer to Councillor Baldwin.”]
