EGG FLOOR
Sir, —Please could you tell •me through “The Press” what is an egg floor? Also, could you tell me the full name and address of one in Christchurch and what it is paying for hens’ eggs at present?—Yours, etc., PRODUCER. Ashburton, March 31, 1955.
[The managing director of the Combined Co-operative Distributors, Ltd. (Mr T. S. Dove) said: “An egg floor is what is known in England as an egg packing station. In New Zealand it is a place where egges are tested, graded and distributed. All egg floors are licensed by the New Zealand Egg Marketing Authority. and are operated as agents of the authority. The only egg floor in Christchurch at present is the Combined Co-operative Distributors, Ltd., which is a producer co-op-erative. The present price of eggs is 4s 8d a dozen for the large size, and 3s 6d a dozen for the small, less commission and industry levy and plus the subsidy.”]
