Another Defeat Seen For Labour
(Ret 11 pjn.) LONDON, April 6. Canting of votes so far has shown that Labour suffered another reverse in atieast one of the 11 counties where polliig continued yesterday. This was in Camarthenshire. where the Labour Party lost its majority and independents are likely to have gained control < the couneil by one. In the old ccincil. Labour held 31 seats, Indepenients 27, and a Welsh Nationalist hek one. But n the poll yesterday, the Inaependens took two seats from Labour, and a Welsh Nationalist another, although one seat was won from independent by a Labour candidate. The noting strength of the new council, uierefore, is: Labour 29, In2B, Welsh Nationalists 2. with tht expected support of the two Nationalsts, the Independents thus would hive control of the council. The Dlling in county elections Which twgan on March 31, will end today. If earlier polling. Labour lost three cctnties—Essex, West Riding of YorksMre and the big cotton county of Lancatiire—to the Conservatives. There is ceep interest in Britain in the polls which are regarded as a straw in the wind for the general election, epected late in Ma*.
