SLIPWAY IN INNER HARBOUR
CRUISING CLUB REQUEST TO BOARD An application for a slipway to be built on the site of the boardwalk at the north-western extremity of the inner harbour at Lyttelton was received by the Lyttelton Harbour Board at its meeting yesterday. The applicant, the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club, said it was the largest club in the South Island, and the third largest in New Zealand. There were more than 90 boats on its register. The club said it was not asking for anything for nothing. Members were willing to help with the work, and to Ejay a rental. The site was occupied by three or four derelict boats, and was known as “Rotten Row.”
The Harbourmaster (Captain A. R. Champion) said he had inspected the mooring. There had then been 11 boats there, and only two of them could be described as derelict. The mooring seemed to be an essential one. The board agreed to hold the matter over for a Report from the chairman (Mr F. E. Sutton) and the engineer-in-chief (Mr J. A. Cashin).
