ARGENTINA CUTS HOLIDAYS

(Rec. 11 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, March 21. The Argentine Government yesterday abolished many civil holidays and all religious holidays with the exception of Good Friday and Christmas, decreeing work as usual on the former to help the national economy. On Christmas and Good Friday, the

government order said, only essential utilities and services would operate. “The other holidays devoted to civic, patriotic or religious celebrations will be maintained as such, but on such days public and government workers must work as usual,” the decree said.

Argentina’s 23 civil holidays were reduced to 11, of which only five will be observed nationally. Persons will be allowed to observe the now nonofficial civil and religious holidays in their own ways, but they will be required to report for work as usual.
