11 Caught But Killer Still Free (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 14. Eight nundred fishermen, operating a fleet of 200 boats, tried to catch a killer shark in Sydney’s middle harbour during the week-end. The killer is still free, but 11 sharks were caught. A shark killed John Willis, aged 13, on January 17 at Balmoral Beach and Bruno Rautenberg, aged 26, on February 5 at Sugarloaf Bay. Sir Edward Hallstrom offered £lOOO reward for the killer shark dead or alive. He also offered £lOO for the largest shark caught in the hunt. A man who hooked a sft 2in hammerhead shark won the £lOO prize. Next week British television viewers will see a film of the shark hunt. A photographer took the film at the request of the 8.8. C. The film will be flown to Britain this week. Hot weather attracted more than 200,000 people to the beaches. Shark alarms sent thousands racing for safety. The number of sharks seen at the popular beaches was the greatest on any one day this season. Sharks yesterday attacked two men in a rowing boat off the North Coast. The men rowed ashore after thrusting the sharks away with their oars The largest shark lifted the stem of the 10ft rowing boat out of the water.
