Tankers Collide In Fog Off U.S. Coast
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 13. The United States Navy tanker Tallulah and the 13,000-ton tanker Orin Planet collided early today in dense fog 65 miles off the coast of Southern California. The San Francisco Marine Exchange reports that although the Orin Planet received “extensive damage,” it and the Navy vessel are proceeding to San Pedro, port for Los Angeles, under their own steam. Whether there were any casualties was not reported immediately. “The Orin Planet reported extensive damage to its No. 6,7, and 8 tanks, and it is shipping water,” the Marine Exchange reports. The United States Coast Guard reports that the collision occurred about 65 miles north-west of Santa Barbara.
