INTER CLUB P CLASS CONTEST TAURANGA WINS CUP With four wins and a second, Tauranga won the Tauranga Cup, an inter-club contest for P class yachts which was concluded at Stewart’s Gully on Saturday. The successful yacht, Twinkle, was sailed by the 13-year-old R. Denniston, who also won the Tanner Cup which is the trophy for P class interprovincial sailing. Denniston comes from a family with a lifetime association with yachting, for his grandfather, father, and brothers have all won in first-class company. MONOTYPE SAILING CHAMPIONSHIP NATIONAL RACE AT NELSON (New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, January 22. The Hamilton boat, Betty Mae. headed the Christchurch entry. Zest, in the New Zealand Monotype sailing championship event on Nelson Harbour today. Morris Amos (Nelson) sailed the Hamilton boat and A. Franklin (Christchurch) was in Zest. Third boat in was Teaser, sailed by D. Eastmond, of Lyttelton. Difficult conditions—a strong wind ana choppy sea—caused five withdrawals and one capsize. Results:— , . M. MOUNT PLEASANT CLUB On Saturday and yesterday the Mount Pleasant Boating Club held the first and second heats of the Cowper Trophy, a race open to all classes. From this race the highest placed Takapuna will represent the Mount Pleasant Club in the N?.vy League Cup, to be held at Stewart's Gully on March 19. As Coriano (B. Fineran) was the high-est-placed Takapuna in both of the heats, it will be the Mount Pleasant representative. The third heat will be sailed next Saturday. Results:— First Heat.—Samba (R.
