TROTTING Nadine May Race Well At Blenheim Tomorrow

Nadine, a member of C. S. Donald’s team; is expected to be one of the hardest to beat in the Marlborough Handicap, the main race on the first day of the Marlborough Trotting Club’s annual meeting at Waterlea racecourse, Blenheim, tomorrow. Nadine has had three races this season, and, although she has not been really dangerous in any of them, her most recent effort at Washdyke last week suggested that she was not far from winning form. Nadine showed good staying form several seasons ago and if she .is back to her best tomorrow, should not find it hard to win. Nadine will probably go on to the Nelson meeting next week and she should have a most profitable trip. '' . Pennyfare, which has had one win and 10 placings from 13 starts this season, is expected to be one of the hardest for Nadine to beat. Pennyfare has plenty of speed and stamina and she will probably be well suited by the roomy Blenheim course. It will be most surprising if she fails to win a race on the trip. 'Zulu’s Pride, a winner at his first of three starts this season, has a fair turn of speed on his day. The Dillala horse will only need to begin smoothly to have prospects tomorrow. Two miles at a solid pace may be beyond True Friend, which has shown to advantage over spriqt distances in recent weeks. However, if there is a slow pace in the middle stages of the race, he may show up. Red Hackle makes most appeal of the others. Strong Bracket N. L. Berkett will parade a strong bracket in Dinnie Daley and Tartan in the E. A. Weld Handicap. Dinnie Daley was a most impressive winner at Kaikoura in November, when making his first appearance for Berkett. He has not raced since then. Dinnie Daley is a brother to the Dunedin Cup winner, Victory Dale, which has shown useful form in recent weeks in Syd-

ney. Tartan has not been placed in two starts this season. The Quite Sure geld-

ing showed speed in his race at Washdykt a fortnight ago and that run should have brought him to his peak for race.

Bobby Brigade has been most unlucky in his recent races and if he begins smartly, he will be the hardest for the bracket to beat. Bobby Brigade, which is raced by his trainer, A. M. Purdon, is a half-brother by Light Brigade to Black Douglas and Trixie Milne. Blacksmith showed speed for a time in the Timaru Challenge Stakes at Washdyke last Saturday and in the much weaker company in this race he should show to advantage. The Peter Smith four-year-old is a smart sprinter. Chief Lady was an impressive winner at Greymouth recently, but she would probably do better over more ground. Nevertheless, she cannot be overlooked. „ Fair Lead. Sir Roger, and Marshall Foi are others expected to race well. The Addington-trained Jocoly, a place-getter at Washdyke last Saturday, may gain a well-earned win in the W. J. Martell Handicap. The Scotland s Pride mare has plenty of speed ana will only need to trot solidly to reach a place. , Kauru Boy trotted a useful race at Washdyke last Saturday for sixth in the Gleniti Handicap, won by Shirley Dillon. He will not be meeting such stern opposition at Blenheim and should do better. . Overdale Lad, a consistent trotter at the Greymouth meeting early in the month, may not go far, but in this class of field he should continue to pay his way. A win for him would be most popular. w . . Bugle Call, of which a high opinion is held. Lancewood. Royal Secret, and Ona we should do best of the others. In the three furlongs longer r. b. Barnes Handicap, Kauru Boy may have too much stamina for the others. He won over two miles at Kaikoura in November and should not be troublea to run out the distance solidly. Jacinta. Lancewood, Jocoly, and Bugle Call may do best of the others. The double will be run on the Marlborough Trotting Club Handicap and the H. E. Fuller Handicap. Selections are:— 11 am.—W. J. Marfell Handicap: Jocoly. Kauru Boy. Overdale Lad. 11.45 a.m.—W. T. Lowe Handicap: Ponty, Zagar, Lauder Lady. 12 30 p.m.—E. A. E Fuller Handicap: Bobby Brigade, Spotlight, Dinnie Daley. 3.55 p.m.—A. G. Bailey Handicap: Ponty, Floreate, Lauder Lady. 4.50 p.m.—Sir John McKenzie Handicap: True Friend, Flywheel. Red Hackle. Fields, with form, for the doubles races, are:—

BANKS PENINSULA AND KUROW

TWO NON-TOTALISATOR MEETINGS

The Banks Peninsula and Kurow Trotting Clubs will run non-totalisator meetings tomorrow. Good fields have been received for the Motukarara meeting, and the Kurow Club has received strong support from Washdyke and Oamaru stables. Most interest at Motukarara will centre m he . Performances of horses engaged at Forbury Park on the next Saturday, and in those of the two-year-olds the majority of which will race at the’ Canterbury Park meeting next month. Several horses engaged at the inter-Domin-ion championship meeting at Auckland next month will also race at Motukarara At Kurow there will be a parade for two-year-olds and in the other races are a number of horses claiming engagements at the Forbury Park meeting. Our Roger, Caduceus, and Soangetaha win give away starts of from 132 to 156 yards in the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club Handicap, the main event at Motukarara. These three horses are engaged at Auckland and interest will be taken in their performances. These three will have little chance of reaching a place but the race should do much to bring them to their peak for their Auckland engagements.

La Fey, from the front. Merry Gold, from 12yds, and Cassado, from 36yds, have all shown fine form in recent weeks and they will only need to race up to their best to dispute the finish.
