INTEREST IN N.Z. BOUTS
AUSTRALIAN CLUB DIRECTOR (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 20. Mr A. Mawson, director of the Australian Boxing Club, who has arrived in Auckland, said he was keen to • place world and lower-class fighters in bouts in Auckland and other parts of New Zealand. Under offer to Mr Mawson Is the world welter-weight boxing champion, Johnny Saxton, for a tide fight with Freddie Dawson In Australia, as well as smaller fights. Mr Mawson said It was. now a matter of meeting the guarantee and dependent on what business he could do in New Zealand and Australia with a view to
getting Saxton smaller fights. Mr Mawson was prepared to offer up to £40,000 as a guarantee. He also proposes to match Dawson with the worldranked welter-weight, Ramon Fuentes. He is also to bring out the world light-heavy-weight champion, Archie Moore, who last fought in Australia in 1940. Sandy Saddler, who was deprived of his world feather-weight title by the National Boxing Association last week, is also to be imported. Bouts for this pair were not mentioned by Mr Mawson, although he suggested that the winner of the bout between Ken Brady and Kitione Lave could be matched with Moore in Australia, and the return fought in Auckland. He added that he had several fighters suitable for New Zealand bouts, including Alfie Sands and Marshall Clayton. Air travel lessened complications in bringing boxers to the Dominion. BRADY-LAVE FIGHT POSTPONED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 20. The Ken Brady-Kitione Lave fight scheduled for Carlaw Park this evening was postponed because xof rain. The bout will probably take place tomorrow evening.
