BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS A request for the council’s proposals for a controlling committee for the Diamond Harbour Community Centre Hall was received by the Lyttelton Borough Council last evening from the Diamond Harbour Burgesses’ Association.
In moving that the council be not represented on the committee, Cr. A. M. Miller said the management of the hall should be left to the Diamond Harbour people. The motion was carried. Mr H .R. Lake, M.P., forwarded a letter received from the Minister of Internal Affairs (Sir William Bodkin) in reply to a request for a further subsidy on the Diamond Harbour Community Centre Hall. The council had asked whether the would make available a subsidy on a grant of £5OO which the Lyttelton Borough Council was prepared to make. In his reply the Minister said that it was not possible to offer additional assistance in this way. Only those moneys raised by June 30, 1953, were eligible for subsidy.
