Charge Of Allowing Child To Die
(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) TOULON, Nov. 7. An examining Magistrate has decided to release on provisional liberty two “Witnesses of Christ” accused of letting their three-month-old daughter die untended, in obedience to the tenets of their sect. The couple, Gaston Debray and his young wife, Jackie, are in a prison hospital after a three weeks’ hunger strike. They are disciples of a small, hunch-backed 51-year-old former postman, Georges Roux, who claims to be Christ and forbids his 4000 followers to accept medical aid. The couple -were detained on September 26 after they presented the dead body of their baby, Joelle, to a prayer meeting of “Witnesses.”
