Japanese Seamen Abandoned

(Rec. 10 p.m.) PORT MORESBY, Nov. 8. Seven Japanese seamen from a fishing vessel have been abandoned on an island off New Britain.

A Rabaul report says that a Japanese fishing craft entered the island group east of New Ireland and landed several men in dinghies and sampans. When a plantation manager, Mr Geoff Cleveland, arrived to investigate, the Japanese vessel hurriedly recalled the dinghies and sampans. One sampan was slow in returning and the ship put to sea without it. Mr Cleveland found seven men aboard. Mr Cleveland -questioned the men and learned that the ship is named the Ebisu Maru. It is owned by the Shosuke Oshira Company, and is headed for Okinawa.

It is believed that a naval ship from Manus Island is now on the way to pick up the Japanese.
