CHARGE AGAINST DR. MALAN

“Deportation On Nazi

Lines”

(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON. November C. The Archbishop of York (Dr. C. F. Garbett) has accused Dr. Malan’s South African Government of “mass deportation on the lines of a Nazi or Communist State,” according to the “Daily Mail.” Dr. Garbett said he was breaking the silence observed until now, in order not to embitter racial conflict in South Africa. The racial policy of the Unton Government, he said, was to keep the dark races in complete subjection, deny them advanced education, and treat them as a servile class. “The regulation they propose will make almost impossible the work of education. The freedom of the Church will be destroyed.” One proposal was to move 60,000 Africans from western Johannesburg to an area 12 miles away. He described this as “an arbitrary act of mass deportation on the lines of a Nazi or Communist State.” •
