BAPTIST UNION CONFERENCE
THREE NEW CHURCHES RECEIVED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. November 4. More than 300 delegates—the greatest number in the history of the Baptist Union of New Zealand—attended the union’s seventy-second annual assembly at the Auckland Baptist Tabernacle today. Three new churches were received by the union. They were the Tokoroa Church, which was built mainly by the effort and supervision of its minister, a former builder, the Rev. A. C. Webster, and the Tamaki and Temuka churches. The Rev. F. P. Lanyon, who has been general secretary-treasurer for the last 15 years, was elected vice-president He succeeds Mr W. Carey, who was inducted as president on Tuesday. Mr Lanyon automatically becomes presid-ent-elect for 1955. The Rev. L. A. North, who since 1939 has been minister of the Central Baptist Church, Wellington, was elected general secretary-treasurer-designate. He will take office in March as secre-tary-designate, and assume the secretaryship In November of next year.
