LADY MOGAMBO WINS OAKS STAKES WEIGHT-FOR -AGE VICTORY TO PRINCE CORTAULD (NJS. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 4. Lady Mogambo left no doubt about her claim to being the best filly in Australia when she ran away with the Oaks Stakes at Flemington this afternoon. Having only her seventh start in a race, she completed the classic double for fillies. She had previously won the One Thousand Guineas at the Caulfield Cup meeting. Lady Mogambo, which is*raced on lease by a tally clerk on the Geelong wharf, was sensationally backed from 5 to 2 to a fl to 4 favouritism. She was always going freely, handy to the leaders, on the rails, and when the Sydney jockey, Billy Gamer, gave her a cut with the whip at the two furlongs, she dashed to the lead and won running away, with Camer riding her with hands and heels. The veteran jockey. Darby Munro, made a bold attempt to score a tactical victory over young Camer when he took Honeyflow to the front at the start, slowed the field down, dropped back to second at*the half-mile, and came again to lead clearly into the Straight. However, Honeyflow was no match for the winner, although she hung on well to defeat a Sydney filly, Travel Free, for third place. Travel Free had been classed, until Lady Mogambo’s appearance, the best filly in Australia.

Lady Mogambo’s win increased the growing thought that horses -by the re-cently-imported sire, Woodruffe, would prove top-class provided they were given time. Results:— NOVEMBER HURDLE RACE, .. ..
