GENERAL WAGE ORDERS
EMPLOYERS SEEKING REPEAL OF LAW
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 3. The Employers’-Federation hopes that the recent Court of Arbitration wage order will be the last general order issued by the Court. “Strong representations have been made to the Government over the last 12 months to repeal the Economic Stabilisation Regulations, which confer on the Court the power to make general orders,” says the annual report of the federation, issued today, “To date, these representations have not been successful, but as time passes the strength of our argument increases. It is hoped that the case just concluded will be the last the Court is required to deal with,” says the report. “Ample machinery exists under the I.C. and A. Act for workers and employers to negotiate wages and conditions that should apply, and a reversion to this method, without the complications of general orders, should be approved by . the Government as quickly as possible.”
