The Webb Cup for most P^ro^v was won b y Mrs K - Webb. u U<h - Heathcote.— Members of the Hillsborough-Heathcote Country Women s Institute were recently the guests at the monthly meeting of the Mount Pleasant Institute. Fifteen members of the glee club sang pleasingly, and an amusing one-act play was presented by McGregor Smith, Harbut, Radcliffe, and Wilson. A quiz was also held Four new members were welcomed by the president (Mrs McGregor Smith). A very successful sales table was in charge of Mesdames Watson and Truscott. A competition for a novelty apron was won by Mrs Wing and Mrs Park was second. Ladbrooks.—The Ladbrooks Country ‘ Women’s Institute held its twenty-second birthday party in the Ladbrooks Hall. Friends from neighbouring institutes and , women’s divisions were welcomed by the president (Mrs H. Coleman). An enjoy- i able programme of plays and musical items was provided by members of the ' Christchurch centre. The birthday cake J made by Mrs E. Hone was cut by Mrs , Coleman. Two silver rose bowls were pre;ented for competitions won during the I /ear. The winners were Mrs M. D. Gallacher (arts, crafts, and cooking), and Mrs 1 ’. Pickering (flower section). After supier a short dance was held.
Springston South.—The September meetng of the Springston South Country Vomen’s Institute was held in the memorial hall, and Mrs Harris presided over i small attendance of members. An in‘erestlng demonstration of making plaitea cushions and a novelty dusting mit, was given by Mrs S. Pearce, of Rolleston. Flowers were sent to the hospital. Hostesses for the afternoon were: Mesdames R. Hamilton and C. H. Heywood, Competition results were:—Small bloom: Mrs R. Harris 1, Mrs P. Woolridge 2, Mrs C. H. Heywood 3. Large bloom: Mrs Harris 1, Mrs Heywood 2, Mfrs H. McDonald 3. Spike: Mrs J. Woods 1, Mrs McDonald 2, Mrs Heywood 3. Best bloom: Mrs Har-

Craft: Mrs McDonald 1, Mrs Harris 2, Mrs W. Lancaster 3. Mason's Flat.—Mrs White presided at the September meeting of the Mason’s Flat Country Women’s Institute and welcomed two visitors. Mrs Baldwin was elected delegate to the half-yearly federation meeting in Hawarden on October 7. The programme for the following six months
was drawn up. Miss E. Mclntosh gave an interesting talk on her recent trip to Australia. Competitions resulted as follows: —Large bloom: Mrs Beere 1, Mrs H. Earl 2, Mrs Foster 3. Small bloom: Mrs M. Earl 1, Mrs Foster 2, Mrs H. Earl 3. Spike or cluster: Mrs H. Earl 1, Mrs J. Earl 2, Mesdames Foster and Beere ,(equal) 3 Small trough of flowers: Mrs H. Earl 1. Mrs Baldwin 2, Mrs Eaves 3. Sponge roll: Mrs Scott 1, Mrs Denton 2, Mrs Foster 3. The hostesses were Mesdames Denton and G. Mason.
