PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

ALPINE CLUB AWARDS ANNOUNCED (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 4. Winners in the New Zealand Alpine Club’s annual photographic competition, this year judged by Dr. f. T. Salmon, were announced today by the chairman of the Wellington section of the club (Mr A. P. Thomson). The judge for the Guide Alack cup section of the competition was Mr F. Newmarch (Wellington). More than 70 entries were received from all over New Zealand, 12 from each section of the club. Results:— Alpine: “Revealing Light,” F. Schusser (Wellington) 1, “Ruapehu Afternoon,” John Lesnie (Auckland) 2, “Leden Feld,” J. N. Hamilton (Canter-bury-Westland) 3. Mr Hamilton’s entry won the Guide Alack Cup for best photograph of a purely mountaineering nature. Scenic: “Solitude,” R. L. Preston (Wellington) 1, “Alpine Sunrise,” Martin S. Barriball (Canterbury-Westland) 2, “Tranquil Te Anau,” John Lesnie (Auckland) 3. “Topical: “Fogbound,” Martin S. Barriball 1; “When Mountains Sleep,” Martin S. Barriball, 2; “Alpine Reflections,” F. Schusser, 3.
