ST. JOHN AMBULANCE COMPETITIONS
CANTERBURY SUCCESSES The Canterbury cadets who visited Hamilton last week to compete in the Dominion St. John Ambulance competitions won honour for themselves and for their city and province. Out of eight competitions Canterbury won seven. Their successes included wins in the teams sections and for the best individual leaders. Miss Annette Jones, only daughter of Mr and Mrs R. D. Jones, Durham street north, won the Canterbury Centennial Shield for the champion individual nursing cadet. This trophy was presented in 1950 by Superintendent Olliver in honour of the Canterbury centennary. .The Bledisloe Cup for the best individual ambulance cadet was won by Warwick Sluce, of Canterbury, who also won the prize for the champion team leader, the first time one boy has gained both awards. The award for the champion girl team leader was gained by Beverley Page, of Canterbury, and members of her team were Annette Jones, Linn Todd, and Jeannette Garret. Their trophy was the George Barclay Memorial Shield. Members of the winning boys’ team who were awarded the Sir Alfred Robins Memorial Shield were Warwick Sluce, W. Clark. Neil Williamson, and Graham Southom. The seventh trophy won by Canterbury was that for the champion team member. This was won by Neil Williamson.
