Graham Greene Held At Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico), Aug. 31. Graham Greene, the famous British novelist, was detained at San Juan by the American authorities on arrival from Haiti, it was learned today. Mr Greene, who was on bis way to London, will be sent back to Haiti. No reason was given for the American authorities’ action. In February, 1952, there was a delay in granting Mr Greene a visa to visit the United States after publication uf reports in America that he had been a probationary member of the Communist Party while an undergraduate in Oxford 30 years ago. The visa was finally granted, however, after approval by the Justice Department.
