H-Bomb Victim Now Has Jaundice

(Rec. 8 pun.) TOKYO. August 31. One of the 23 Japanese fishermen injured by radioactive “death dust” from the Bikini hydrogen bomb explosion last March is critically ill with yellow jaundice, a spokesman for the Tokyo First National Hospital said last night . Doctors gave oxygen to the man— Chief Radio Officer Machi Kuboyama —throughout the day after his condition became serious. All the injured fishermen have been suffering from yellow jaundice for some time, the spokesman said, but Kuboyama’s condition became worse a few days ago. The United States and Japan are negotiating over payment of compensation to the fishermen and their families.
