CRICKET PAKISTAN BEATS MIDDLESEX
(NuS. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 31. Pakistan rounded off its tour programme against the English Counties with a fine 140-run victory over Middlesex at Lords today. Throughout the match, Pakistan played the better cricket and thoroughly merited the win. Middlesex was set the task of scoring 361 in 300 minutes. Jack Robertson and Sid Brown gave the county a magnificent start with an opening partnership of 90 in 85 minutes, but then wickets fell at regular intervals. Scores were:— Pakistan, first innings, 303 for seven declared. Middlesex, first innings, 175, Pakistan. second innings, 232 for five declared (Imtiaz Ahmed, not out, 47; Bennett two for 44, Moss two for 46). Middlesex, second innings. 220 (Robertson 59, Brown 47, Titmus 61; Mahmood Hassan three for 38, Shujauddin three for 85).

County cricket matches resulted:— Surrey 128 (Statham five for 35) and 213 (Hilton five for 55) beat Lancashire 160 (Laker six for 41) and 88 (Laker four for 41, Lock five tor 19) by 93 runs. Derbyshire 156 (Woolier five for 45) and 58 (Watkins seven for 28) lost to Glamorgan 196 and one for none, by 10 wickets. Warwickshire 211 (We]Js five for 50) and 362 (Tbwnsend 90) drew with Gloucestershire 419 for six declared (Graveney 93, Young 141, Milton 135). Hampshire 370 for eight declared (Rogers 123, Blake 100) and 37 for none beat Somerset 160, and followed on, 243, by 10 wickets Essex 272 (T. Bailey 83) and 185 for nine (T. Bailey not put 79) drew with Sussex 228 (Suttle 75) and 214 for nine (Suttle .78). Leicestershire 287 and 224 (Wright six for 81) beat Kent 317 (Fagg 130. Pettiford 84) and 135 (Jackson six for 26) by 59 runs. Northamptonshire 333 (Livingston not out 207; Dooland eight for 93) and 93 (Dooland five for 19) lost to Nottinghamshire 261 (Broderick five for 64) and 166 for four, by six wickets.
RETURN OF TWO N.Z. PLAYERS
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 1. The New Zealand cricketer, J. R. Reid, and his wife, will sail for New Zealand from England on September 3« In the same ship will be F. E. Fisher, the Wellington Plunket Shield player, who has been playing in the Lancashire Cricket League with Reid, but not for the same club. Reid had an excellent season. Up until August 15 Fisher had made 500 runs and taken 60 wickets. It was his first season in the league. Reid will resume his duties as professional coach to the Wellington Cricket Association, and Fisher win play for his old dub, Johnsonville. They will arrive at Wellington on October 5.
