WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS

Oxford.-— Mrs G. W. Markham presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Oxford branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. It was decided that the twenty-first birthday celebrations of the branch be held on October 12, and take the form of a conversazione. Members of the Woodend drama club presented songs and two sketches. Competition results were:—small bloom: Mrs P. A. Engelbrecht 1, Mrs E. Skurr 2, Mrs W. Eley 3>-JLarge bloom: Mrs E. H. Bran muffins: *s McSweeney 1 and 2. Stewart’s Gully.-—The August meeting of the Stewart’s Gully Women's Division of Federated Farmers was held recently with Mrs Phipps presiding. Birthday greetings were extended to Mesdames Roper, Cooksley and Smith sen. It was decided to send a donation of £1 Is to the Division’s community chest. Six members offered to pack goods for CORSO. Mrs Hanright reported on attending the annual dominion conference at Wellington. Competition winners were as follows:—article made from one yard of material: Mrs Wrigglesworth 1, Mrs Bradshaw 2. Vase of flowers: Mrs Ledsham 1, Mrs Hanright 2. Nut loaf: Mrs Ledsham 1, Mrs McLaughlan 2. Small bloom: Mrs Hopewell 1, Mrs Ledsham 2. Large bloom: Mrs McLaughlan 1, Mrs Ledsham 2. Spike or cluster: Mrs Clutterbuck 1, Mrs Hanright 2. United Bays.—A, large number of visitors from Country Women’s Institutes and branches of the Women’s Divisions of Federated Farmers attended the birthday party of the United Bays branch of the division recently held in the Barry’s Bay Hall. The president (Mrs Weir) welcomed visitors and introuced Mrs I. L. M. Coop, who spoke and showed films on her visit to Toronto. Songs were sung by Mrs D. Stewart. Glenroy.—The Glenroy branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers held its August meeting when Miss C. Phillips presided. Miss Phillips reported on the last Provincial executive meeting which included Dominion conference matters. The letter from Siegfrid Friesser, the Austrian child, sponsored by the branch under the Save the Children Fund was read. Mrs H. N. Woolley gave a demonstration on arranging flowers. Hostesses were Mesdames Montgomery and Charles., Competitions resulted as follows:—jar of marmalade: Mrs Pearce 1, Mrs Hunt 2, Mrs Evans 3. Large bloom: Mrs Gray 1, Miss Dennis 2, Mrs Marsh 3. Small bloom: Mrs Hunt 1, Mrs Pearce 2. Mrs Marsh 3. Cluster: Mrs Pearce 1. Mrs Marsh 2, Miss G. Dennis 3. The Letitia Hunt vase was won by Mrs Pearce. Dunsandel.— There was a large attendance of members and visitors at the twenty-fourth birthday party of the Dunsandel branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers. Among those present were Mrs Orchard, Provincial president, Mrs Scott, Provincial executive and Mrs G. H. Gilbert a foundation and life member of the branch to whom sprays were presented by the president Mrs W. Hope. A small presentation and a spray were given to Mrs J. H. Williams who has been a member and is leaving the district soon. The programme consisted of a mannequin parade, a play, vocal solos by Mrs Guthrie and Miss Ruth Chatterton, a piano-accordian solo by Miss Judith Parker and a piano solo by Mrs Gilbert. A birthday cake with 24 candles was made and iced by Mrs Frampton. The candles were lit by Mrs Gilbert, blown out by Mrs Orchard. The cake was cut by Mrs Williams. A successful sales table was held. Competitions resulted:—large bloom: Mesdames L. G. Woods 1, W. Balloch 2, J. A. Scott 3. Small bloom: Mesdames Balloch 1, J. Scott 2, F. Chamberlain 3. Large cluster: Mesdames Scott 1, Balloch 2. small cluster: Mesdames Balloch 1, Scott 2. Container of dried material: Mesdames P. Bell 1, Scott 2. Coal glove: Mrs Woods 1. Coconut biscuits: Mrs Bishop 1. Three leeks: Mrs Bishop 1. Preserved beans: Mesdames Scott 1, F. Bishop 2. Shrubs: Mrs J U. Williams 1.

Amberley.—Mrs A. George presided at the July meeting of the Amberley branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, and gave a report on the executive meeting held in Rangiora. Members were asked to support the special CORSO appead by sending good discarded clothing and footwear. The Suest speaker was Dr. S. W. Gunz, who escribed the work being done by the blood bank at the Christchurch Public Hospital. Visitors from Balcairn were entertained. A letter of resignation was received from Mrs G. Bowker. Competition results, were:—large bloom: Mesdames Shroder and Kidd (equal) 1, Mrs E. His-, lop 2, Mrs W. Briggs 3. Small bloom: Mrs Wells 1, Mrs George 2. Mrs Graham 3. Cluster: Mrs Wells 1, Mrs Stringer 2. Mrs George 3. Spike: Mrs George 1, Mrs Hislop 2, Mrs Stringer 3. Best carrot: Mrs Wells 1, Mrs Hislop 2, Mrs Shroder 3. Parsnip: Mrs Streeter 1, Mrs Shroder 2, Mrs Wells 3.

Port Levy.—Mrs Ford presided at the recent monthly meeting of the Port Levy branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers and welcomed the following visitors: Mesdames Brocherie, Jenkins, sen., G. Richfield, van-Dijk, Grennell, and Misses B. and J. Richfield and Barnes. After the , business was completed an enjoyable social was held to mark the branch’s fifteenth birthday. The play “Eldorado” was read by Mesdames Ford, R. Jenkins, Acton-Adams, and Miss L. Richfield. Four of the original members were present, Mesdames Field, Jenkins, sen., G. Richfield, and W. S. Coop. They assisted in lighting the candles and cutting the cake. After supper trophies for the most points were presented to Mrs Turpin for floral arrangement, large bloom and small bloom, and to Mrs Haley for sewing, cooking, and the most points gained for the year.
