VITAL STATISTICS FOR AUGUST
Births in the Christchurch area in August again show an increase on last year. Deaths increased to 62 more than last year, but for the eight months of this year births have outnumbered deaths by almost three to one. The vital statistics for August, with the figures for the same month last year in parenthesis, are:—births, 3C5 (334); deaths. 249. (187); marriage notices, 154 (127): marriages by Registrar, 33 (24). The statistics for the eight months of this year are:—births, 3006 (2775); deaths, 1409 (1269); marriage notices, 1121 (1076); marriages by Registrar, 254 (232).
