GORSE ON PENINSULA OUT OF CONTROL
SUGGESTION TO APPOINT INSPECTOR Gorse in many cases on Banks Peninsula had gone beyond the power of the individual to control it, and he believed a noxious weeds board was the solution to the problem, said the chairman (Mr H. J. Mortlock) at a recent meeting of the Akaroa County Council. Two officers of the Department of Agriculture—Messrs J. Forrester and R. W. Mackenzie—waited on the council to discuss the control of noxious weeds. Mr Forrester suggested that the Peninsula counties should combine to employ a noxious weeds inspector. He said that the department, which now administers the Noxious Weeds Act, was trying to do its best, but had many other problems to contend with. - “We have enough problems of our own without taking on noxious weeds,” said Cr. G. E. Mulcock. Mr Mortlock said that if the expense of an inspector were borne by the three counties, it might be possible to do something.
