N.Z. TEAM TO VISIT AUSTRALIA IN 1956

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 31. A New Zealand representative men’s softball team will tour Australia in 1956, about the time of the Olympic Games. The president of the New Zealand Softball Association (Mr D. T. Howe) told delegates to the annual general meeting of the association at Wellington that the Australian Softball Association had confirmed its acceptance of the tour. A number of methods for selecting the team, including one for zone trials, was recommended to the incoming council. It was expected that the team would leave in October, before the 1956-57 season was under way. A Wellington remit proposing that the annual inter-island game be played at the end of each season was defeated. It Aizas felt.that the fixture was a highlight of the annual inter-provincial inter-club gathering, and should continue to be so. To improve uniformity in umpiring, it that umpires must affiliate with the New Zealand Softball Umpires’ Federation. Officers elected were:—patron. Mr M. A. Jenkins; president, Mr D. T.
