FLORAL CLOCK

WORK BEGUN ON ‘ INSTALLATION A beginning was made yesterday on the construction of the base and the installation 'of the floral clock, given to Christchurch by the Calder, Mackay Company, Ltd. The dock will be installed on the riverbank opposite the Salvation Army Citadel. The work involved the carting and spreading of about 180 cubic yards of soil to form the necessary incline, the construction of the well to house the mechanism, the installation of electric power and a water supply, the laying out of the lawns, surrounds and background, and the construction of railings or kerbings around the plot, reported the reserves committee to last evening’s meeting of the Christchurch City Council. The dwarf plants for embellishing or furnishing the dock face are being raised at the Botanic Gardens.
