THREE FIRES AT WELLINGTON

SUSPICIOUS FEATURES SEEN (Naw Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 30. Three fires that occurred in Wellington between 7 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. on Saturday had suspicious features, according to the Wellington Fire Brigade. The first was at 7.4 p.m., the second at 7.1 L p.m., and the third at 8.13 p.m. While engines were attending the first fire, a call was received to the second. The first fire occurred, in a posting box m the Te Aro Post Office.. It is thought that inflammable material was pushed into the box to start the fire.’ A small quantity of mail was destroyed. Seven minutes later, five engines from the Central Fire Station and one from Thorndon were in Stewarts lane, off Wakefield street, where a truck, with rubbish in 45-gallon drums on the tray, was ablaze. The truck was parked outside the Radio Corporation building. When the tank in the vehicle exploded the building was threatened by the flames. The truck was severely and slight damage was done to the building. At 8.13 p.m. the brigade was called to Sturdy street, where in a vacant section another truck was on fire. The fire was quickly put out.
