TRANSPORT BOARD’S REVENUE

INCREASE OF £3109 SHOWN Revenue received, by the Christchurch Transport Board for the period ended July 18 this year shows an increase of £3109 compared with that received in the same period in 1953. This was revealed in the revenue account presented to a meeting of the board yesterday. Of the total revenue received—£39,629—traffic revenue provided £38,143, an increase of £3312 over that in the corresponding period last year. Revenue derived from sources other than under the. heading of traffic, showed a decrease of £203 compared with the figure for July last year. Operating expenses rose from £38,605 to £42,266, an increase of £3661.- This increase was mainly due to increases in traffic expenses, general expenses and repairs and maintenance. The net loss for the period was £2637, an increase of £552. over the figure for last year, and with standing charges at £10,502, this brought the total deficiency for the period to £13,142, an increase of £llB6. The deficiency to date, however, had decreased from £41,530 in 1953 by £3307 to £38,223. During the period the board’s trams and buses carried 1,637,603 passengers, a decrease of 90,317.
