STUDENT HEALTH SCHEME

HELP SOUGHT FROM DEPARTMENT The health Department will be asked whether it would medically examine new students, organise tuberculosis examination of all students, and what other services it could provide toward the student health scheme at Canterbury University College. The scheme was started some years ago with voluntary services by private doctors, but it was found that the demands on their time were too great that in recent years the qollege has mainly provided remedial exercises and general physical training and recreations. The Students’ Association has had long* discussions on wider proposals. Recently Dr. L. H. Cordery, president of the Canterbury division of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, Dr. D.' P. Kennedy, Medical Officer of Health, and Dr. S. C. Peddie met the academic committee, of the college council which yesterday recommended the approach to the Health Department. Mr J. Leggat told the council that he understood the Health Department had reached certain decisions on the services it could offer and he thought information eould fairly be requested.
