THREE AUSTRALIANS WIN MATCHES 1 (N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) ' (Rec. 7 p.m.) A < FOREST HILLS (New York). Aug. 29. Thrte Australians won their matches . in the United States national tennis singles championship here today. Lewis Hoad, the top-seeded overseas player, beat Sidney Schwartz after a shaky start in a second-round match. The Australian had drawn a first round bye. _ Rex Hartwig and Kenneth Rosewall won their first-round matches. Two other impressive winners were the 1953 champion, Tony Trabert, the United States Davis Cup player, and Lennart Bergelin. of Sweden. Trabert, with a first-round bye, qualified for the third round with a 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 win against Hubert Eaton, the second male negro in the championship. He gave a flawless exhibition of paralysing power and pinpoint accuracy. Bergelin was a superb tennis artist in fluently stroking his way to a 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 first round win against Andrew Stern, of Philadelphia. '6-0; Rex Hartwig (Australia) beat Robert Bedard (Canada), 6-3, 6-0; Gardnar Mulloy (United States) beat Robert Kerdasha (United States), 6-3, 6-2, 6-2; Kosei Kamo (Japan) beat Arthur Andrews (United States), 7-5, 7-5, 6-4; Herbert Flam (United States) beat Calvin McCracken (United States), 6-3, 6-3. 6-2; Gilbert Shea (United States) beat Luis Ayala (Chile*), 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2; Atsushi Miyaga (Japan) beat Robert Forbes (United States), 6-2, 6-4. 6-1; Ricardo Balbiers (Chile) beat Robert Freeman (United States), 6-2, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4; Gerald Moss (United States) beat Enrique Vijande (Spain), 6-1, 6-1, 6-2; Lennart Bergelin (Sweden) beat Andrew Stern (United States). 6-1, 6-0, 6-0. , x Second Round.—Lorn Main (Canada) ■ beat Edward Kilgus (United States). 6-0, 8-0. 6-0; Tony Trabert (United States) ' beat Hubert Easton (United States), 6-0, 6-0. 6-1; Lewis Hoad (Australia) beat Sid--1 ney Schwartz (United States), 10-12, 6-0, 6-4, 6-4.
