DICTATION’S SEVEN RECORDS

BRILLIANT EFFORT AT ADDINGTON Dictation regained his New Zealand record for one mile and five furlongs when he recorded 3min 25 l-ssec in the Winter Handicap at Addington on Saturday. Until last January he had held the record at 3min 27sec, which Vodka lowered to 3min 26 2-ssec. Dictation now holds all but two of the New Zealand records for horses of his gait. Worthy Queen’s record of 2min 3 3-ssec for one mile against time established in 1934 is still standing, and Vodka holds the winning record of 3min 27sec for one mile and five furlongs. Dictation’s performance to finish fourth in his race on Saturday after giving away starts of up to 96 yards was a feature of the day’s racing. His 3min 25 l-ssec for the mile and five furlongs is only 3 l-ssec outside the New Zealand Tecord for a pacer established by Burns Night in 1953. Dictation holds the New Zealand record for dne mile and a quarter at 2min 38 2-ssec, and he has a winning record for the distance of 2min 38 3-ssec. Over one mile and a half he holds the record at 3min 10 4-ssec, and his winning record over this distance is 3min 12 3-ssec.
