TROTTING Light Brigade Was Leading Sire At Recent Addington Meeting

«fhe Volomite stallion, Light Bripde. was the leading sire at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Gra nd National meeting, which concluded at Addington on Saturday. Altogether his progeny won five races and recorded two placings tor £2820 in stakes. This was £l4O more than that gained by the progeny of U. Scott which recorded three wins and eight placings for £2680 in stakes. Both Light Brigade and U. Scott are at RovdST Lodge Stud. Yaldhurst. Light Brigade’s success was due mainlv to the efforts of his trotting stock, which won all four races for horses of this gait at the meeting. Fair Isle and Battle Cry won the two main races and the minor events went to Seaforth and Citronella. Light Brigade’s winner at the pacing gait was ’ Light Nurse, which beat a good field in the Canterbury Three-year-old Stakes. Light Brigade also sired Dresden Lady, third in the same race. Quite Sure, the leading sire of trotters last season, had a very poor meeting. Excellenza, which earned £l5O. being his only representative to be placed. U. Scott’s progeny raced well at the meeting and last season's leading sire is certain to be near the top of the list before the end of next July. Brava Caduceus. and Scottish Note were winners sired by the Scotland horse. Josedale Grattan owes his place on the list solely to the successes of Denbry. which accounted for all but £lOO of his total of £2160. The other £lOO was won by Gay Lad. Gold Chief, the sire of Rupee, was fourth with £l2OO, ahead of Springfield Globe, whose progeny gained one win and six placings for £lllO.
