TWO FULBRIGHT AWARDS

NEW ZEALANDERS TO STUDY IN U.S. “The Presto Special Service WELLINGTON, August 30. Two New Zealanders, both of Christchurch. have been given the final awards under the 1954 Fulbright programme of the United States Educational Foundation in New Zealand. They are Miss Olive Y. Malcolm, M.A., and Dr. Brian D. Stringer, M. 8., Ch.B. Miss Malcolm will take up a scholarship obtained through the Institute of International Education at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. She left by the Ruahine on August 25. Dr Stringer .has a trayel grant to enable him to study at the Medical School, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. He will leave by the Rangitoto on October 30. The Fulbright programme provides for United States citizens to pome to New Zealand and New Zealand citizens to travel to the United States for study, teaching, or research. Awards have now been made to 26 American citizens and 25 New Zealanders. Miss Malcolm and Dr. Stringer have also been given United States Government grants of 400 dollars under the authority of the Smith-Mundt Act, to assist them in maintaining themselves while in the United States.
