WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS

Tai Tapu.—Mrs J. R. Biddick presided at' the July meeting of the Tai Tapu branch of Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. It was decided to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the branch by holding a re-union picnic in the Botanic Garden, Christchurch in December. A motion of sympathy was passed with the Rev. W. L. Wilkinson in the death of his mother, a past member of the branch. Mrs Wright, of Tai Tapu, gave an interesting talk on Canada where her home had been for some years. Competition results were:—large bloom: Mrs Hight .1, Mrs Kennedy 2, Mrs J. Fiecken 3. Small bloom: Mrs Kennedy 1, Mrs Hight 2, Mrs Biddick 3. Cluster: Mrs Kennedy 1, Mrs Heinzmann 2, Mrs Fiecken 3. Spike: Mrs Kennedy 1, Mrs Fiecken 2. Fernside.—An address on the recent conference 4ield in Wellington was given by Mrs Frizzell at the monthly meeting of the Fernside branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. She was presented with a bunch of flowers by Mrs Morris. Thanks. were expressed to Mrs Meaclem for making the birthday cake and to Mrs Sinclair * for icing it. Competitions resulted as follows:—baby’s bootees: Mrs Schroeder 1, Mrs Morris 2, Mrs Purvis 3. Stem: Mrs Morris 1, Mrs Cutler 2, Mrs J. A. Evans 3. Small bloom: Mrs Morris 1, Mrs Chapman and Mrs Ballagh (equal) 2, Mrs R. Milne 3. * View Hill.—Mrs R. Taylor presided at the monthly meeting of the View Hill Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Miss Leath McGrath gave an account of her recent holiday in Australia. Compettitions resulted as follows:—Two beetroot: Mrs Thorne 1, Mrs L. Taylor 2, Mrs Frampton 3. Knitting: Mrs- H. Taylor 1, Mrs Edge 2, Mrs Latter 3. Hostesses were Mesdames. Edge and Feary. Leithfield.—Mrs W. Trost presided at the monthly meeting of the LeithfieldBalcairn branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs Bryant, gave a report on the work of the Floral School in Rangiora. The guest speaker was Miss Murgatroyd who gave an address on occupational therapy. Competition results were:— best bloom: Mrs Robertson 1, Mrs Fleming 2, Mrs Moyra 3. Small bloom: Mrs L. Ashworth 1, Mrs Bryant 2, Mrs G. Lang 3. Date Loaf: Mrs J. Smith 1, Mrs Lilley 2 Mrs C. Ashworth 3. Best potatoes: Mrs R.■ Ashworth 1, Mrs Lilley 2, Mrs Robertson 3. Rolleston.—The monthly meeting of the Rolleston branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held recently. Mrs Pearce presided, and welcomed a visitor from Invercargill. She also read the report on the executive meeting. A social quarter-hour given by Mrs Lowe was won by Mrs Fraser* and an amusing competition for a hat made from a sheet of of newspaper and three pins was won by Mrs J. Stewart. The hostesses were Mesdames R. Chambers and P. Davison. Competition results were as follows: spike: Mrs P. Davison 1, Mrs E. Lowe 2. Cluster: Mrs Lowe 1, Mrs D. Newall 2, Mrs S. Pearce 3. Large bloom: Mrs E. Lowe 1 and 2. Small bloom: Mrs Lowe 1. Mrs Pearce 2, Mrs M. G. Wilson 3. Girl’s cotton sun suit: Mrs Wilson. Bottle fruit salad: Mrs Wilson. Prettiest piece of china: Mrs Pearce 1, Mrs John Brosnahan 2. Mrs Wilson 3. Christchurch.—Mrs H. B. Clark presided at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Women’s Division of the Federated Farmers. Motions of sympathy were passed with the relatives of the late Mrs H. A. Nutt and also with Miss Enright in the death of her sister. Mrs Denham gave a short talk on the life of Mrs Nutt as a member of the Division. Competitions resulted:—small cluster: Mrs Foley 1, Mrs Denham 2, Mrs Templeton 3. Small bloom: Mrs Foley 1, Mrs Denham 2, Mrs Templeton 3. Large cluster: Mrs Mason 1, Mrs Chapman 2. Large bloom Mrs Foley.
