OBITUARY

MISS ALICE J. BROADHEAD Miss Alice J. Bfoadhead, who died in Christchurch yesterday, was the only daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Henry Broadhead, of Christchurch. She was educated at Rangi-ruru School, and at Canterbury University College, where she graduated M.A. with honours in Latin and Fltench. She also studied music and, at the age of 18 years, gained the L.T.C.L. degree. After some years of secondary school teaching at Columba College, Dunedin, and Rangi-ruru, Christchurch, Miss Broadhead was appointed principal of Carncot, a private school for girls in Palmerston North, and this position she held continuously for the last 15 years, until she had to resign owing to illhealth. Miss Broadhead was a successful teacher, and under her guidance, the girls received a valuable primary education before • entering secondary schools. Miss Broadhead took a very deep interest in her work, arid won not only the affection of her pupils, but also the respect and esteem of their parents. She is survived by three brothers— Mr L. W. Broadhead and Dr. H. D. Broadhead, both of Christchurch, and Mr B. A. Broadhead, of Wellington.
