J. V. Wilson To Join M.C.C. Team

, LONDON, August 29. The M.C.£. has announced that J. V. Wilson, the Yorkshire left-hand batsman, has been invited to accompany the team leaving for Australia on September 15.

The secretary of the M.C.C. (Mr R. Aird) said that the invitation in no way affected the decision to fly Denis Compton out to join the team if the medical report on his knee is satisfactory. Wilson, 33, is one of the most aggressive early batsmen in English cricket. He has scored 1000 runs a season seven times, including this year, and is a smart close-to-tne-wicket fielder. Wilson will be the only left-handed batsman in the side. He made his debut for Yorkshire in 1946 and was given hiy county cap two years later. His best summer was 1951 when he made 2027 runs at an average of 48.26 and took 55 catches. This season he has scored 1679 runs—36.so—and has hit three centuries.
