DIAMOND WEDDING

MR AND MRS L. BROWN • Mr and Mrs Leslie Brown, of 90 High street, Greymouth, who celebrated on Friday the diamond jubilee of their marriage, received a cablegram of congratulations from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, as well as telegrams and best wishes from the Governor-General (Sir , Willoughby Norrie), the Prime Minister (Mr Holland), the Leader of the Opposition (Mr W. Nash), Mr C. F. Skinner, M.P., and Mr J. B. Kent, M.P.

Mr and Mrs Brown arrived, in Greymouth about 40 years ago from Wellington, and Mr Brown was employed as a foreman for the Anchor Company from that time until eight years ago, when he resigned. There were eight children of the marriage, two girls and six boys. One son, Eric, was killed while serving with, the New Zealand Expeditionary Force during the Second World War. Other sons are Messrs George Brpwn (secretary of the Buller Hospital Board), P. T. Brown, of Greymouth, Walter Brown, Leslie Brown, and Reg Brown, all of Wellington. One daughter, Mrs P. Smith, lives at Prestons road, Greymouth, and another, Mrs Miles, is living in Marton. There is a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. The jubilee was celebrated with a family reunion at the home of Mr and Mrs Brown.
