AMATEUR RADIO TRANSMITTERS

NEW ZEALAND-WIDE CONTEST HELD The New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters held its memorial contest recently, and although conditions were not good, many overseas contacts were made. The contest is held on the 80-metre band, and extends over eight hours in two four-hour periods. The object is to communicate with as many stations as possible in the time allocated, usually overseas contacts on this band are limited to Australia and the southwestern Pacific islands, but over the contest stations raised included some in Rarotonga, Norfolk Island, Samoa, Macquarie Island, Papua, Australia. Brown 3 L Lower power section (ManneU trophy): C. E. Shaw (New Plymouth), 1; ZL2ASV, R. Lynneberg (Wellington), 2; ZLIAJD, F. J. Krippner (Te Awamutu), 3. The Laing-Smith trophy, for those who have been licensed operators for less than one year, was won by R W. Wright (Auckland). 7
