OLD BOYS BEAT SOUTH CANTERBURY

Old Boys played too well as a team for South Canterbury in a match on Saturday. and won by 4 goals to 0. South Canterbury’s play was patchy, with some good individual work. Old Boys took charge of the game early, but found D. Marshall very solid at left back, and they could not get through. Old Boys’ first goal came from a fine centre by N. Palmer, which Blyth took cleanly, and he scored from close range. The game was even for the rest of the spell, with both sides getting a share of the play, but no goal being scored. Ola Boys attacked smartly in the second spell, and P. Hanna turned the ball past the goalkeeper. Then P. Blyth snapped the ball in after a penalty comer. South Canterbury attacked for a time, Miller and Boyd pressing the defence, but D. Reid was playing soundly, and play returned for Blyth to score again tor Old Boys. . Umpires: Messrs M. Lilburne and W. McIlroy.
