The increasing difficulty of maintaining training at a high standard at H.M.N.Z.S. Tamaki, the Royal New Zealand Navy’s basic training establishment on Motuihi Island, in the Hauraki Gulf, is mentioned in the annual report of the New Zealand Naval Board tabled in the House of Representatives this week. “Accommodation and facilities are inadequate and the equipment provided for instructional purposes is in many cases outmoded,” says the report. The board hopes to commence rebuilding in the coming year. It is proposed that the rebuilding be carried- out in five phases so that the continuity of training will not be unduly interrupted. Last year 219 adults and 185 boys carried out training in H.M.N.Z.S. Tamaki—(F.O.P.R.)
