OBITUARY
MISS ALISON GRAHAM Many friends of her family and former schoolmates will hear with deep regret of the death of Miss Alison Ogilvie Graham, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. W. Graham, Cashmere road. Miss Graham was one of the younger members of the community who were always mindful of the needs of those less fortunately placed than herself and ready to work unselfishly on their behalf. She spent practically all her school life as a pupil of St. Margaret’s College, where she was organist for six years. After leaving school she undertook clerical work in her father’s office and a few years ago, after a trip to England with her parents, she became gravely ill and underwent a severe operation. After her recovery, she and a friend, Miss Rona MacKenzie, left in March this year for England. Three weeks ago she became ill and entered a hospital in London. Wishing to come home, she left England by air with a nurse from the hospital, and Miss MacKenzie. Her father travelled to Sydney to meet her on arrival there. In the meantime, when the aeroplane touched down at i .arachi, Miss Graham died. Mr Graham returned to Christchurch yesterday. Miss Graham was greatly interested in the junior branch of the British Sailors’ Society, was secretary for a time and president for some years. She organised gatherings to aid the branch’s funds and arranged much entertainment for seamen at the Seamen’s Institute in Lyttelton. Miss Graham also took a kindly and practical interest in the patients at the Cashmere Sanatorium and was a staunch member of the Presbyterian Church at Cashmere. As treasurer of the church’s New Life movement, she did much to further its interests. A memorial service will be held in the church on Saturday at 11 a.m.
