HOSPITAL LADY VISITORS
MONTHLY MEETING OF ASSOCIATION
Miss E. Cardale presided at the monthly meeting of the Hospital Lady Visitors’ Association. She spoke with regret of the death of Miss Lilian Turner, who was one of the earliest members of the association and after whose sister, Miss Adeline Turner, the nurses’ rest cottage at Sumner was named.
Mrs S. H. Stewart reported that the nurses’ rest cottage had been left vacant for a month to enable the annual spring cleaning to be done. Some new curtains had been chosen and some of the cushions were being recovered, so that everything should be fresh and attractive for the summer season. The garden was in good order, she added.
Mrs F. G. Wait reported that many new books had been bought for the library. The weekly distribution of books had been carried on steadily and was looked forward to eagerly by the patients. Books and magazines had been received from Mesdames Morrison, C. H. Cooper, F. Cracroft Wilson, P. C. Fenwick, M. H. Godby, Brooks, and F. H. Fish, Misses Webster, Inman and Humphreys, and Mr A. S. Nicholls.
Miss Fynes-Clinton reported that the work party had met regularly to work for the hospital. Garments for babies and children had also been made to send to the Queen’s Nursing Sisters at Rotherham, Yorkshire. Miss Twentyman, the librarian at Burwood’ Hospital, reported that the library work was being carried on smoothly and was a great help to the patients. The Country Library Service gave most efficient aid, but she would be grateful for gifts of books suitable for men, and also magazines.
