DUTCH “WATER BUS"
SERVICE ON CANALS OF AMSTERDAM
A large new “water bus” was recently added to the fleet which cruises round the canals of Amsterdam. It has been christened the Dr. Albert Plesman in memory of the late president of K.L.M. Royal Dutch Airlines.
This new vessel was built for the firm of P. Kooy, which has been operating cruises on Amsterdam’s famous canals for the last 26 years, to enable both local people and foreigners to admire the beauties of the “Venice of the North” from the water.
The Dr. Albert Plesman can carry 100 passengers and it has an open roof, which can be closed with a plastic cover if so desired. Because of the numerous bridges on* the eight-mile route, it is very low-built, with a length of 61 feet and beam of 13 J feet. Besides being very comfortably furnished, its equipment includes a public address system, a refrigerator and cooking facilities.
